African Birds
Opening at 9:00 am and Closing at 19:00 pm, the African Birds are waiting for your visit.

See the beautiful and exotic African Birds here at the Africa region of the park. Aviary housing is at the top of Gorilla Falls and whistling and chirping can be heard the whole climb up the falls. Having multiple different varieties and species of African Birds. The array of colours, sights and sounds are a party for your senses.
African Jacanas are spectacular long-legged and long-toed birds. They eat a diet of insects and larvae. They walk on top of the lily pads searching for food.
African Pygmy Geese love the water and they dive and swim for a large percentage of the time. They eat the water lilies and the seeds and survive on this diet in the wild too.
Green Woodhoopoes love the natural forests and woodlands. Their plumes are stunning and feature colours of greens, blues and purples. Eating a mixed diet of insects and larvae as well as seeds and fruits too.
Northern Carmine Bee-Eaters are gorgeous small pink birds with green faces. Named after eating bees in the wild. Not only do they eat the bees, but they also remove the stings before consuming.
Purple Glossy Starlings have a plumage that glistens with colours. They are very distinct having wings of golden-green, a body and face of blue/purple as well as orange eyes. Eating mostly fruits and seeds they survive well in the wild.
African Elephants
Opening at 9:00am and Closing at 22:30 pm the African Elephants are here to see you.

Gorgeous and exotic African Elephants roam the Kilimanjaro Safari area in their herds. See the elephants in a natural 7 acre habitat with trees for scratching itches and 3 large water areas for cooling off and playing in. Also, see huge African elephants nurse their young too. They remain together most of the time so it’s an opportunity that you won’t miss out on. Elephants are herbivores, which means they eat fruits and vegetables mostly. So, home grown banana and willow plants provide food supplies here. Also, they forage for other fruits too. Occasionally, they sweep up the water melons, floating on the waters. Also, training rewards are given regularly to the African elephants that consist of apples and carrots as well as sweet potatoes. Hence, why the African elephants are looked after really well here and trained, vets and doctors check in on them quite often too.
Butterflies
Opening at 10:00 am and Closing at 17:00 pm, come and see the butterflies.

Vibrant and brightly coloured Butterflies from more than 70 different species live here at the Africa region of the park. There are so many unique and diverse colours on display. Look out for the amazing butterflies in the bushes and fauna across the park.
Brush-Footed Butterflies are named after their legs resembling brushes as they are quite hairy. Gulf Fritillary butterflies are beautiful bright orange with tiny black markings on their wings. Monarch butterflies have unmistakable markings on their wings. They are deep orange in colour with bold black markings as well as white spotted wing tips. Zebra Longwing butterflies are Florida’s state butterfly. Black and white vertically striped wings adorn this beauty.
Gossamer Winged Butterflies are quite small and fragile. They are iridescent and vibrantly coloured as a form of self defence to protect their species. Ceraunus Blue Butterflies are pale blue with eye markings on their wings. This deters predators from approaching. Gray Hairstreak Butterflies are pale grey with red eyes-pots on their wings. Also, they have small dangling tails to warn off predators too.
Skipper Butterflies are quite small to look at. Making up for their loss in stature, their wings are extremely powerful. Although dull in colour, they can fly pretty fast to escape predators. Tropical Checkered Skipper Butterflies are dark brown in colour with pale markings on their wings. Long-Tailed Skipper Butterflies are more colourful. Featuring iridescent blues on their bodies and wingtips.
Swallowtail Butterflies are large and colourful butterflies. Eastern Tiger Butterflies are vibrant with colour. They have yellow and black tiger striped wings that are quite large. They are very easy to spot and are captured on photographs far more than the other species.
White and Sulphur Butterflies are very pale colours with dainty markings on their wing tips. Coming in a variety of shades too. For example, whites and cloudy yellows to pale oranges. See if you can spot them as you explore the park.
Giraffes
Opening at 9:00 am and Closing at 22:30 pm the Giraffes are here waiting.

Elegant and tall Giraffes are beautiful and stroll around their natural habitat at Africa Region of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Prime viewing opportunities on the two Safari Tours are a chance to see the giraffes in their splendour. You can see them from the lodges here too. Families love the giraffes here at the park and some guests come just to visit them. Hence, why the giraffes are so popular on the holiday photographs. Their habitats provide the perfect place for giraffes, with long grasses and trees to keep them healthy and shaded. Also, the ground staff made termite hills to resemble their own in the wild. Roaming free in search of food the giraffes are herbivores too. This means they eat fruits and vegetation. Being social animals means they live together with Ankole cattle, springboks and wildebeests too. Come see the giraffes from the park or the lodges, they are stunning!
Gorillas
Opening at 9:00 am and Closing a 19:00 pm, come and visit the Gorillas.

Huge western lowland Gorillas are living in their natural habitat at Animal Kingdom. Thriving in the tropical forest the gorillas raise their young among the shady trees and waterfalls of their habitat. They are a delight to see, healthy and stimulated. Also, they live at Animal Kingdom exactly as they do in the wild too. Gorillas are herbivores, meaning they eat a healthy diet of fruits, vegetables and foliage. The magnificent gorillas here are looked after very well. For example, seeing them chest thumping and strolling around with their young on their backs is a beautiful sight. Find them on the Exploration trail. Bring the family along to see these gentle giants. Also, catch them peeking through the hillside bushes too. Being very inquisitive and curious creatures, they often come out to see who is strolling around on the self led trail. Don’t be alarmed if they want to investigate.
Hippos
Opening at 9:00 am and Closing at 22:30 pm, visit the wonderful hippos.

Glorious and magnificent are the hippos here at Animal Kingdom. Living in a natural habitat of blue lagoons and rocky slopes. Also, long grass with shaded trees. Wallowing in the waters and roaming free as if they were in the wild sub-Saharan of Africa. They just love the water! Living in small herds, the hippos are sociable animals too. For example, hippo viewing points are across the region. Look for them on the Trail or the Tour too. Hippos are mainly herbivores and eat a rich diet of shrubs, plants and foliage. Also, watermelons are rewarded by the trainers. Come and see them wallowing in their watery habitat. There is a tour too, called the ‘Wild Africa Trek’ where you can observe the hippos. The tour is popular and held at regular intervals throughout the day. Why not take the opportunity to book one.
Lions
Opening at 09:00 am and Closing at 22:30 pm, the lions are ready for visitors.

Majestic lions await visitors, from their natural habitat. See the lions in all their splendour as they roam free. Also, view them as they prowl and hunt. Being carnivores, they eat a diet of meats. However, to ensure that the lions are healthy and fit they work for their food. When Florida gets very hot, the lions eat frozen fish and meat in ice cubes. There are several points to see lions. For example, one of them being, the Kilimanjaro Safaris Trek. ‘The Wild Africa Trek’ is second tour. costing around £200 per adult can be expensive, however, it does last for 3 hours. If you have the money it is well worth booking a place. Secondly, ‘The Savour the Savanna’ is an evening tour; which is slightly cheaper than the first tour at £145 per adult and takes around 90 minutes. Again, if you can spare the cash then you will enjoy this tour as well.
Okapis
Opening at 9:00 am and Closing at 22:30 pm, see the Okapis in action.

Why not spend some valuable family time with the parks Okapis. They are so beautiful and very photogenic too. Also, okapis are very interesting and resemble other animals in many ways too. For example, their heads and faces are quite like a giraffe. Their body and bone structure is like that of a horse. Lastly, the stripy hind and front legs resemble the zebras stripes. Also, these stunning features, making the okapi unique. Where are the best places to see the okapis? There are many spots, however, the lodges gardens as well as the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail are the best. Also, they are visible from various tours and other places too. Being very shy and nervous, the okapis are rarely sighted in the wild. You are lucky to have the chance to see and photograph them here. Also, being herbivores, the okapis eat a fresh diet of shrubs and foliage from their natural habitat.
Rhinos
Opening at 9:00 am and Closing at 10:30 pm, visit the parks Rhinos.

Featuring both black rhinos and white rhinos in the same park is a feast on the eyes. They are magnificent creatures to observe and to see them roam freely around a natural habitat is awesome. Also, watch them lock horns in their habitat. Both the black and the white rhinos are native to Africa and have a good life here. Being herbivores, means that they survive on a diet of plants and vegetation. However, they are partial to sweet potatoes too. In their habitat they are surrounded by the comforts of home, having mud baths to wallow in. Also, they live here in a small herd, but tend to be quite solitary animals. Sighting the rhinos from the Wild Africa Trek whilst exploring the park is amazing too. They enjoy hiding, come and see if you can find them!
Zebras
Opening at 9:00 am and Closing at 19:00 pm, see the stripy Zebras grazing.

Visit the zebras whilst exploring the park and observe them happily grazing and strolling in their natural surroundings. Living in herds, the zebras are naturally sociable animals. Also, remaining together to raise their young and survive, the zebras are flourishing here too. Sightings are frequent. For example, having three types of different zebra species at Animal Kingdom, meaning opportunities to see them are plentiful. They can be seen all over the park from various locations too. Firstly, the Grevy’s Zebras can be spotted from the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail where they graze on the grasslands. Secondly, Hartmann’s Zebras can be observed from Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodges and finally, Grant’s Zebras can be seen from the Kilimanjaro Safaris, as well as the Lodges too. Zebras being herbivores meaning that supplemented diets with plants and vegetation is necessary too. Hence, why they enjoy their habitats so much.
Exploring Attractions at Animal Kingdom
Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail
Opening at 9:00 am and Closing a 19:00 pm, trek the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail.

The fabulous Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail is a great family experience. With Florida weather being sunny most day; it’s a great outdoor adventure for the whole family too. The scenery is beautiful and the forest landscape is exciting. Also, be sure to look out for the wildlife as you trek the trail. For example, there are gorillas here that can be seen most of the route and if you are lucky enough, the hippos may even be seen. Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail makes it way through the forest and the savanna where zebra roam freely. Meerkats and exotic birds as well as the butterflies too. There are multiple opportunities to take family photographs against an amazing backdrop. Or even a quick selfie with the animals behind you. Also, many observation stations are located around the trail so that you can stop to observe the animals more closely.
Kilimanjaro Safaris Attractions at Animal Kingdom
Opening at 09:00 am and Closing at 22:30 pm, take the Kilimanjaro Safaris.

Browse the Savannas of the Africa region from an open-top safari jeep. Also, spot an array of wild and beautiful animals that live here in the savanna too. The tour takes around twenty minutes and is well worth taking the time to book. Also, venture through different landscapes and explore. The Kilimanjaro Safaris tour guides are extremely friendly. Quiz them about the animals and their habitats. Spotting either a black or a white rhino is exciting, as is seeing the lions standing proud on the high rocky terrains. Photograph opportunities are everywhere on the tour, but you have to be quick to take a shot of the gazelles. Also, baboons as well as cheetahs can be seen amongst the trees as well as a host of other exotic species too. Keep your eyes peeled as you travel the region with the wind on your face.
Wildlife Express Train
Opening at 10:00 am and Closing at 16:30 pm, ride the Wildlife Express Train.

See the park with the wind in your face, ride the Wildlife Express Train; one of the feature attractions at Africa Region of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Working locomotives, that are rustic and run on narrow gauge tracks are delightful to see steaming through the park. Every family loves a ride on a steam train. Also, the ride is very scenic and departs from the station in Africa. The journey takes just short of ten minutes to reach Rafiki’s Planet Watch Region. Children under the age of seven years old must be accompanied by a person who is fourteen years or older. However, for the whole family the train is a wonderful experience. For example, from the train you can see the African elephants and the rhinos grazing. Also, the railway is inclusive for all, catering for both disabled and able bodied people too. The carriages are designed to accommodate wheelchair users, meaning that everyone can ride the Wildlife Express Train.
